Job Summary:
NCI seeks an experienced professional to provide support to the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer with managing, organizing, directing, and evaluating a wide variety of financial activities including the planning, development and maintenance of the organization’s systems of accounting, financial control, budgeting, human resources, grant finance, endowment investment management and other key business functions. The position shall supervise staff and third parties responsible for general fund, investment, grant accounting, budgeting, accounts payable, student accounts, cash management, investment management, payroll, credit card processing and purchasing.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and administer fiscal plans, policies, and procedures in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and industry best practices.
- Manage and direct the fiscal year-end close and the annual financial audit including preparation of NCI’s financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Work with tax professional preparers and CFO on annual 990 tax preparation.
- Manage the month-end close including all bank reconciliations, account schedules, travel & expense, fixed assets, payroll reconciliations, investment accounts, public funding tracking and program allocations.
- Manage the payroll processing and human resources administration with oversight from the CFO.
- Monitor and maintain cash balances to ensure sufficient funds for cash forecast requirements and obligations.
- With the assistance of the CFO develop, maintain and monitor the annual operating budget, operating benchmarks/metrics, program monitoring and reporting standards.
- Responsible for generating timely and accurate financial information and reports including quarterly financial reports and state compliance reporting.
- Assist the CFO with developing, implementing and maintaining internal controls to effectively safeguard, and manage finance resources including segregation of duties, financial systems, policies and procedures.
- Work closely with the NCI team to oversee the grant management finance and operations including the management software platform.
- Interpret and appropriately apply accounting principles and regulations.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive chart of accounts and accounting software of the organization.
- Assist the CFO with management and preparation of Board of Directors quarterly meetings and Audit and Investment Committee meetings.
- Remain actively involved in professional activities that are relative to the position.
- Foster positive relationships with all external and internal constituencies served by the organization.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the CFO and other members of the Executive Leadership team.

Qualifications:
NCI seeks qualified candidates who possess the following minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required. Graduate degree in Accounting, MBA in Finance and/or CPA is preferred.
- Minimum of eight to ten years of progressively responsible experience accounting, supervision of professional and support staff
- Strong experience of not-for-profit accounting principles and processes, endowment and fund accounting and grant management finance/operations.
- Knowledge of and experience with complex computer-based financial management systems, including system upgrades.
- Knowledge and possession of high professional standards and a personal code of ethics characterized by honesty, integrity, openness, and fairness.
- Strong leadership and administrative skills including, but not limited to strategic planning, personnel management, budget and resource management, continuous process improvement and assessment.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, project management, problem recognition, and resolution skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate financial information to all internal and external constituents both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to serve as an internal resource and consultant, and work collaboratively with all employees of the organization.
- Ability to manage time and deliver projects in a timely manner in an environment of competing priorities.
- Effective oral and written communications skills.
