NCI seeks an experienced professional to support finance, human resources, and administrative operations.
Job Summary:
Reporting directly to the Controller, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for payables processing, operating and investment account reconciliations, corporate credit card reconciliations, payroll reconciliations, month-end close procedures, audit support, HR support, maintaining the general ledger and chart of accounts, prepaids and fixed assets, and other ad hoc assignments as needed to support the mission of NCI.
Responsibilities:
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for the following:
- Coordinate with other departments as the lead payables processor for the organization, ensuring payables are entered with accuracy and are paid on time.
- Lead the month-end closing procedures for the finance department with oversight from the Controller.
- Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts as well as month end schedules as part of monthly and annual close such as investments and fixed assets.
- Work closely with the Controller to create and maintain various financial support schedules.
- Partner with the Controller to prepare financial reporting packages for quarterly board reporting. Provide management with updates and analysis on any major budget variances.
- Assist the Controller with budget preparation, cash flow projections, and other projects as needed.
- Be responsible for all corporate credit card reconciliations and account coding, including training and technical assistance to the NCI team on the expense platform.
- Be responsible for Pledges receivable and maintenance of donor records including reporting on impact to contributor and other reporting requirements as needed.
- Assist Controller in the Grants finance and funding process post award including monitoring and compliance of multi-year grants.
- Reconcile and maintain programmatic expenses within spend and compliance guidelines for State allowable expenditures.
- Support Controller with state compliance reporting on quarterly and annual basis.
- Support Controller with the annual third-party audit and tax preparation.
- Assist the Controller with HR administration as needed.
- Assist the Controller with quarterly department budget reporting and participate in organization wide budget meetings.
- Assist CFO and Controller with administrative duties such as organizing calendars, expense reporting, meeting and travel plans.

Position may require some travel to universities, partners and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
NCI seeks qualified candidates who possess the following minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience in accounting or finance required.
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles required.
- Experience and knowledge of working with universities, grants, and/or not-for-profits is preferred
- Prior experience working with budget to actual analysis, budget preparation, and reporting preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in analytical reporting and conveying of complex information in a clear manner to a diverse audience
- Experience working with AkoyaGo or similar grant administration platform preferred.
- Strong administrative skills and self-motivation with the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks under minimal supervision in an effective and efficient manner
